How to Delete a TruthFinder Account and Opt Out

Step-by-step guide to deleting your TruthFinder account and opting out of its people search listing, plus what returns and why.

To delete a TruthFinder account, sign in, go to the account or billing settings, cancel any active subscription, then contact TruthFinder support to request account closure. To remove your personal details from public search results, you must also complete the separate opt-out process, which does not require an account.

These are two different actions. Cancelling or deleting your account stops billing and closes your login. It does not remove your name, address or relatives from the TruthFinder listings that other people can find. That takes an opt-out request. Do both if you want to stop paying and remove your profile.

Delete your TruthFinder account

This applies if you signed up as a paying member and want to close the account entirely.

  1. Sign in to your TruthFinder account with the email and password you used to register.
  2. Open the account settings or membership area. This is usually reached from a menu under your account name or a settings link.
  3. Find the subscription or billing section and cancel the active plan. Cancelling stops future charges. Do this first so closure does not leave a live subscription behind.
  4. Look for an option to close or delete the account. If there is no self-service button, use the customer support contact listed inside your account or on the site's help pages.
  5. Ask support in plain terms to close your account and delete the personal data associated with it. Keep the request short and specific.
  6. Save any confirmation email or reference number they send back. This is your proof if a charge or the account reappears.

If you cannot log in because you have forgotten the password, use the password reset link before contacting support. Support will often ask you to verify the email on the account before they act.

Opt out of TruthFinder search listings

The opt-out is what removes your public profile. You do not need to be a member to do this, and you should do it whether or not you ever paid for the service.

  1. Go to the TruthFinder opt-out or suppression page. It is usually linked in the site footer under a heading such as privacy, opt out, or do not sell my information.
  2. Search for your own listing if the process asks you to. You will normally see one or more profiles that match your name and location.
  3. Select the listing that is yours. Check the age and the listed relatives to confirm it is you and not someone with the same name.
  4. Follow the removal instruction shown. This typically involves confirming the record and submitting a request.
  5. Provide an email address if asked. Some opt-out flows send a confirmation link you must click before the request is processed.
  6. Open that email and click the confirmation link. Until you confirm, the request may not be actioned.

If the page asks for more than it needs, give only what is required to identify the listing. You should not have to hand over a full identity document to remove a free listing.

What happens after you opt out

A confirmed opt-out usually takes a short while to take effect. Once processed, the profile should no longer appear in TruthFinder's own results.

Do not expect this to be permanent. Data brokers rebuild their records from upstream feeds. TruthFinder pulls from public records, marketing data and other aggregators. When those sources refresh, a new profile can be built that matches you again. In practice, listings often reappear within a few months. This is normal and it is not a sign that you did the opt-out wrong.

Because of this, treat opt-outs as maintenance rather than a one-time fix. Set a reminder to check again in a few months and repeat the process if your listing returns.

What you cannot remove

Some of the information in these profiles comes from public records. Court filings, property ownership records, corporate registrations and voter rolls are public by law. An opt-out can hide the aggregated profile that TruthFinder builds from that data, but it cannot delete the underlying public records themselves. Those remain available at their source, and other brokers can pull from them too.

This is why the same details can show up on another people search site even after you have cleared TruthFinder. Each broker is a separate company with its own copy of the data.

A note on the wider network

Removing yourself from TruthFinder deals with one site. Your details are likely published across many other people search services that operate independently. Clearing one does not clear the rest. If your goal is to reduce your exposure broadly, you will need to repeat opt-out steps site by site, then check periodically for reappearances.

Doing this at scale

Handling one broker by hand is manageable. Handling dozens, and re-checking them every few months, is repetitive work. Vanish is a Mac app that finds where data brokers publish your personal information and sends CCPA deletion demands on your behalf, then keeps checking as listings return. It is one way to automate the manual process described above if you would rather not track it all yourself.

Quick recap

  • Cancel the subscription first, then request account closure through settings or support.
  • Complete the separate opt-out to remove your public listing.
  • Confirm the opt-out by email if prompted.
  • Keep any confirmation numbers as proof.
  • Re-check in a few months, because listings tend to come back.

Common questions

Does deleting my TruthFinder account remove me from search results?

No. Deleting your account closes your login and stops billing, but your public profile stays visible. To remove that listing you have to complete the separate opt-out process, which does not require an account.

How long does the TruthFinder opt-out take to work?

It usually takes effect a short while after you confirm the request, often by clicking a link sent to your email. Timelines vary, so check your listing again a few days later to confirm it has gone.

Will my information come back after I opt out?

Often yes. Brokers rebuild their records from public records and other data feeds. A new profile matching you can appear within a few months, so treat opt-outs as something you repeat rather than a one-time fix.

Can I opt out of TruthFinder without creating an account?

Yes. The opt-out is a separate process from membership. You can search for and remove your listing without signing up, usually starting from the opt-out or privacy link in the site footer.

Why does my information still appear on other sites after removing it from TruthFinder?

Each people search service is a separate company with its own copy of the data. Removing yourself from TruthFinder does not affect the others. You need to opt out of each site individually.
