Vanish is a privacy tool. It would be absurd for it to harvest your data, so it does not.
Vanish has no user account, no server, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash
reporting. We do not know who buys it, who they scan, or whether they ever open it.
Everything you type stays on your own computer:
| Data | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Name, aliases, addresses, emails, phone numbers | A single file in your Mac's Application Support folder |
| Email password / app password | Encrypted into the macOS Keychain (safeStorage) |
| Have I Been Pwned API key | Encrypted into the macOS Keychain |
| Licence key, and a record of which people this copy has been used on | Your Mac's Keychain and app data |
| Scan results, listing URLs, activity log | The same local file |
Deleting the app's data folder deletes all of it. We hold no copy and cannot
recover it for you.
Only three things, all of them things you asked for:
1. Search queries — the name, addresses, emails and phone numbers you entered
are sent to DuckDuckGo as ordinary web searches, and pages on data-broker
websites are loaded, in order to find listings.
2. Deletion requests — emails are sent from *your own* mail account, through
*your own* mail provider, directly to each data broker. They necessarily contain
the identifying details needed for the broker to find and delete the record.
We never see them.
3. Breach checks (optional) — if you supply a Have I Been Pwned API key, email
addresses you entered are sent to Have I Been Pwned to look up known breaches.
This only happens when you press the button.
Nothing is sent to Fynl Corp at any point.
Licence keys are verified offline using a cryptographic signature. The app does not
contact us to check whether you paid, so we learn nothing about your usage.
Purchases are handled by our payment processor. We receive your email address for
delivering the licence key and for support. We never see your card details.
The processor's own privacy policy governs that transaction.
Using Vanish means contacting data brokers, DuckDuckGo, your mail provider, and
optionally Have I Been Pwned. Each has its own privacy policy and we do not control
them. Note that submitting a deletion request necessarily tells a broker who you are
— that is unavoidable and true of every removal service.
Vanish is not intended for anyone under 18.
Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose,
correct or delete. Requests about the data in your own copy of the app are answered
by deleting it yourself.
Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes and by the date above.
