How to Delete Your Spokeo Account and Opt Out

Step-by-step instructions to delete your Spokeo account and remove your personal listing, plus what to expect when the data reappears.

There are two separate things you may want to do with Spokeo. One is to delete a paid or free account you created. The other is to remove the listing that shows your name, address, phone number and relatives, whether or not you ever signed up. These are different processes. This guide covers both.

Deleting a Spokeo account you signed up for

If you registered for Spokeo, either for a free trial or a paid subscription, your login and any saved payment details sit in your account settings.

  1. Sign in to Spokeo with the email address you used to register.
  2. Open your account or profile settings from the menu linked to your logged-in name.
  3. Look for a cancellation or account closure option. Subscriptions and account deletion are often handled in separate places, so cancel any active plan first.
  4. If you cannot find a delete option in the settings, contact Spokeo customer support and ask them to close the account and stop billing. Keep a copy of your request.
  5. Check your email for a confirmation. If your bank shows a recurring charge afterwards, dispute it with your card provider and reference your cancellation.

Deleting your account does not remove your public listing. The listing is generated from data Spokeo collects, not from your login. You have to opt out of that separately.

Removing your personal listing from Spokeo

Spokeo runs an opt-out process for people who want their profile suppressed from search results. You do not need an account to use it. You do need the URL of the specific listing that shows your details.

  1. Go to Spokeo and search for yourself. Use your name and, where the search allows it, your city or state to narrow the results.
  2. Find the listing that matches you. Confirm it is yours by checking the age range, relatives and past locations shown in the preview. You may have more than one listing if your data appears under variations of your name or old addresses.
  3. Copy the web address of that specific listing from your browser.
  4. Find the opt-out page. It is usually linked in the site footer under a privacy or opt-out heading. Open that page.
  5. Paste the listing URL into the opt-out form and enter an email address where Spokeo can send confirmation.
  6. Complete any verification step the form presents, such as a checkbox to prove you are not a bot.
  7. Submit the request. Open the confirmation email from Spokeo and click the link inside to finish the opt-out. The removal does not take effect until you confirm through that email.

If you found several listings for yourself, repeat the process for each one. One opt-out only covers the single URL you submitted.

Use an email you can keep checking

The confirmation link is the part people miss. If you never click it, the listing stays live. Consider using a dedicated email address for opt-outs so you can track them in one place rather than losing them in a busy inbox.

What you can and cannot remove

Opting out suppresses your Spokeo listing. It does not delete the underlying records. Spokeo pulls information from other sources, and some of those sources are public by law.

Court filings, property deeds, corporate registrations, marriage records and voter registrations are public records. You cannot have them deleted by contacting Spokeo or anyone else. What you can do is remove them from Spokeo's search product, so they are harder to find in one place. The original public record still exists at its source.

Your listing will probably come back

Be realistic about what an opt-out achieves. Spokeo and other people-search sites rebuild their records from upstream data feeds, marketing lists and public records that keep flowing in. A listing you remove today can reappear within a few months when the site refreshes its data.

This is not a sign you did the opt-out wrong. It is how the industry works. The only way to keep a listing suppressed is to check back periodically and submit a fresh opt-out when it returns.

Removal is maintenance, not a one-time fix. Treat it as something you repeat, not something you finish.

After you opt out

  • Wait for the site to process the request. Give it some time before you expect the listing to disappear from search results.
  • Search for yourself again to confirm the listing is gone. Try name variations and old addresses in case another listing exists.
  • Note the date you opted out so you know when to check again.
  • Remember that Spokeo is one site among many. Removing yourself here does not touch the dozens of other people-search sites that hold similar data. Each one has its own opt-out.

Doing this at scale

Opting out of one site by hand is manageable. Doing it across every broker that lists you, and then repeating it every few months, is where it gets tedious. Vanish is a Mac app that finds where data brokers publish your personal information and sends CCPA deletion demands on your behalf. It is one way to handle the repetition without tracking every site yourself. You can also keep doing it manually using the steps above.

Whichever route you choose, the principle is the same. Find your listing, submit the opt-out, confirm by email, and check back later. The data broker model means the work is never quite done, but each removal makes your information harder to find in the meantime.

Common questions

Does deleting my Spokeo account remove my personal listing?

No. Your account and your public listing are separate. Deleting the account you signed up for closes your login and stops billing, but the listing showing your name and details is generated from collected data. You have to submit a separate opt-out to suppress that listing.

How long does the Spokeo opt-out take to work?

It varies, and the removal only starts after you click the confirmation link Spokeo emails you. Give it some time, then search for yourself again to check the listing is gone. If you never confirm through the email, the opt-out does not complete.

Why has my Spokeo listing come back after I removed it?

People-search sites rebuild their records from upstream data feeds and public records that keep updating. A removed listing can reappear within a few months when the site refreshes its data. This is normal. Submit a fresh opt-out when it returns.

Can I remove public records like property or court filings from Spokeo?

You can suppress them from Spokeo's search results through the opt-out, but you cannot delete the underlying records. Property deeds, court filings, voter rolls and similar records are public by law and remain available at their original source.

Do I need to opt out of other sites too?

Yes. Removing yourself from Spokeo does not affect other people-search sites, which hold their own copies of similar data. Each site has its own opt-out process that you have to complete separately.
