How to Delete My Information From Shop

Delete your personal data from Shop, the Shopify shopping app. Step-by-step removal for your account, order history, and tracking profile.

To delete your information from Shop, the shopping app made by Shopify, you need to remove your saved profile inside the app or on the Shop web dashboard, then submit a data deletion request to Shopify. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete the data Shopify holds about you. You have to ask for that separately.

Shop stores your name, email, phone number, shipping addresses, payment details, and a running history of orders you have placed at Shopify stores. It also builds a purchase and tracking profile so it can show order updates and product recommendations. This guide covers how to clear each of these.

Before you start

There are two different things people mean when they say "delete my information from Shop":

  • Your Shop account - the profile you signed into, with saved addresses and cards.
  • The data Shopify keeps - order history and tracking tied to your email, even for purchases where you never opened the Shop app.

You may need to do both. Removing the app alone leaves your account and history intact on Shopify's servers.

Delete your saved details inside the Shop app

  1. Open the Shop app and go to your profile or account section, usually reached by tapping your avatar or initials.
  2. Open the settings menu.
  3. Look for the option covering your personal details, saved addresses, and payment methods.
  4. Remove each saved shipping address and each saved card individually.
  5. Remove your saved contact details where the app allows it.

This clears the details stored for quick checkout. It does not remove your account or your order history. For that, continue below.

Close your Shop account

  1. In the Shop app settings, find the account or privacy section.
  2. Look for an option to delete or deactivate your account. If you cannot find it in the app, sign in to the Shop web dashboard through a browser and check the account settings there.
  3. Follow the prompts to confirm. You will usually be asked to verify by email or phone.
  4. Read the confirmation carefully. Closing the account may not automatically erase the order and tracking data Shopify holds. If it does not say your data is being deleted, submit a separate request in the next section.

Request deletion of the data Shopify holds

Shopify processes personal data both as the maker of Shop and on behalf of the stores you bought from. To have your personal information deleted, submit a data subject request.

  1. Go to Shopify's privacy page and look for its privacy or data request contact. This is usually a form or a dedicated privacy email address.
  2. State clearly that you want your personal information deleted. If you are a California resident, reference your rights under the CCPA. Residents of other regions can reference their local law, or simply request deletion.
  3. Include the email address, phone number, and any names you used with Shop so they can find your records.
  4. Ask them to confirm deletion in writing.
  5. Keep a copy of your request and any reference number they send back.

Because Shopify handles data for individual merchants as well as for Shop, you may be told that some records belong to a specific store. In that case, contact that store directly and repeat the request.

Stop marketing emails and tracking notifications

Deletion requests can take time to process. In the meantime, cut off the messages:

  • Open any marketing email from Shop and use the unsubscribe link at the bottom.
  • In the app, turn off push notifications for order tracking and recommendations in your device settings.
  • Turn off any tracking or personalisation toggles in the app's privacy settings.

What cannot be deleted

Some records stay even after a deletion request:

  • Transaction records tied to a purchase. A store may be legally required to keep basic order and payment records for tax and accounting for a set period. This is normal and applies to most retailers.
  • Fraud and security logs. Companies are allowed to retain limited data to prevent fraud.

These are narrow exceptions. They do not entitle the company to keep marketing profiles or recommendation data, which should be deleted on request.

A note on what deletion actually achieves

Deleting your Shop account and asking Shopify to erase your data removes you from that one system. It does not remove your details from the wider market for personal data. If a store you shopped with shared or sold customer data to a marketing partner or a data broker, that copy sits outside Shopify's control. You would need to approach each of those companies on its own.

Be realistic about how long removal lasts. Data brokers and marketing firms rebuild their records from upstream feeds, new purchases, and fresh listings. Even after a clean deletion, a profile can reappear within a few months if new data flows in. Removal is maintenance, not a one-time fix.

After you delete: check the wider picture

Once your Shop data is handled, it is worth checking whether your name, address, and phone number appear on people-search and data broker sites. These sites collect information from many sources, and a single purchase is rarely the cause, but they are where most exposure sits. Each one has its own opt-out process, and you have to repeat it periodically because listings return.

Doing this by hand across dozens of brokers takes hours and has to be repeated. Vanish is a Mac app that finds where brokers publish your personal information and sends CCPA deletion demands on your behalf, then rechecks over time as listings reappear. It is one way to keep the work from piling up, though everything above can be done manually at no cost.

Quick checklist

  • Remove saved addresses and cards inside the Shop app.
  • Close your Shop account through the app or web dashboard.
  • Submit a data deletion request to Shopify's privacy contact.
  • Contact individual stores for records they hold directly.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing and turn off notifications.
  • Save confirmations and any reference numbers.

Common questions

Does deleting the Shop app remove my data?

No. Removing the app from your phone only takes the app off your device. Your account, saved details, and order history stay on Shopify's servers until you close the account and submit a separate data deletion request.

How long does a Shopify data deletion request take?

Shopify sets its own processing time, and it can vary by region and by how many records are involved. Ask for written confirmation when you submit the request, and keep the reference number so you can follow up if you hear nothing back.

Can Shopify refuse to delete my order history?

It can keep limited records it is legally required to hold, such as transaction data needed for tax and accounting, or data used to prevent fraud. These are narrow exceptions. Marketing profiles and recommendation data should still be deleted on request.

Will my information come back after deletion?

It can. If a store shared your details with marketing partners or brokers, those copies sit outside Shopify. Brokers also rebuild records from new purchases and upstream feeds, so a profile can reappear within a few months. Treat removal as ongoing maintenance.

What if a specific store still has my details?

Contact that store directly and ask it to delete your personal information. Shopify handles data on behalf of individual merchants, so some records belong to the store rather than to Shop itself, and the store must action those separately.
