How to Cancel a Spokeo Trial

Cancel your Spokeo trial before it renews. Step-by-step instructions to stop billing, plus how to remove your own listing from Spokeo.

To cancel a Spokeo trial, sign in to your Spokeo account, open the account or subscription settings, and cancel the membership before the trial period ends. If you cannot find the option, contact Spokeo customer support and ask them to cancel and confirm in writing. Cancelling stops future billing but does not remove your own data from Spokeo. That is a separate process, covered further down.

Why the trial charges you if you do nothing

Spokeo trials are designed to convert into a paid subscription. When you sign up, you usually enter card details up front. If you do not cancel before the trial window closes, the card is charged and the subscription renews on a recurring cycle. Cancelling stops the next charge. It does not always refund a charge that has already happened, so act before the trial ends rather than after.

Before you start

Have ready the email address you used to sign up and the card or payment account you registered. Check your inbox for the confirmation email from Spokeo, as it may contain a direct link to manage your subscription. If you paid through a third party such as PayPal or an app store, you may also need to cancel on that side.

How to cancel your Spokeo trial

  1. Go to the Spokeo website and sign in with the email and password you used to start the trial.
  2. Open the account menu, usually found by clicking your name or account icon in the top corner of the page.
  3. Look for a section labelled account settings, subscription, membership or billing.
  4. Find the current trial or subscription and select the option to cancel it. This may be worded as cancel membership, cancel subscription or turn off renewal.
  5. Follow the prompts to confirm. You may be asked a reason or offered a discount to stay. Decline and complete the cancellation.
  6. Look for an on-screen confirmation and a confirmation email. Save both. If no email arrives, take a screenshot of the confirmation page.

If the settings pages do not show a clear cancel option, do not keep guessing. Contact Spokeo support directly.

If you cannot find the cancel option

  1. Look for a contact or customer support link in the site footer or help section.
  2. Use the support contact method offered, whether that is a form, an email address or a phone number listed on their site.
  3. State clearly that you want to cancel your trial and stop any future charges. Give the email on the account.
  4. Ask them to confirm the cancellation in writing.
  5. Keep that written confirmation in case a charge appears later and you need to dispute it.

If you signed up through PayPal or an app store

When you paid through PayPal, you can also stop the recurring payment from inside PayPal by opening your automatic payments or pre-approved payments settings and cancelling the agreement with Spokeo. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel the subscription in that store's subscription settings, because cancelling on the Spokeo site alone may not stop store billing.

What cancelling does not do

Cancelling the trial ends your access and stops billing. It does nothing about the listing Spokeo holds on you. Spokeo is a people search site. It builds profiles by pulling from public records and other data sources. Your own profile can still be visible to anyone who searches your name after you cancel. If your goal is to get your information off Spokeo, you need to opt out separately.

How to remove your own listing from Spokeo

  1. Search your own name on Spokeo and find the listing that matches you. Confirm it is yours by the location or associated details shown.
  2. Copy the web address of that specific listing.
  3. Go to Spokeo's opt-out or privacy page, reachable from the site footer.
  4. Paste the listing URL into the opt-out form and enter an email address for confirmation.
  5. Complete any verification step, such as clicking a link Spokeo sends to your email.
  6. Wait for the listing to be suppressed. If you have several listings, repeat the process for each URL.

California residents can also send a formal deletion demand under the CCPA, which requires the company to delete personal information it holds about you, subject to legal exceptions. That is a stronger request than a standard opt-out.

An honest word on how long this lasts

Removal is not permanent. Data brokers rebuild their records from upstream feeds. Even after a successful opt-out, your listing typically reappears within a few months as fresh data flows in from the sources Spokeo buys or scrapes. You will need to check periodically and repeat the opt-out when it returns.

Some of what appears on these sites comes from public records. Court filings, property records, corporate registrations and voter rolls are public by law and cannot be deleted at the source. An opt-out can hide how a people search site displays that data, but it cannot erase the underlying public record.

A quick checklist

  • Cancel the trial before the deadline, not after.
  • Save the confirmation email or screenshot.
  • Cancel any linked PayPal or app store payment separately.
  • Opt out of your own listing if you want your data removed.
  • Recheck every few months for reappearance.

Doing this across many sites

Spokeo is one of dozens of people search sites, and most of them carry overlapping copies of the same data. Removing yourself from one does little if the others still list you. Doing every opt-out by hand, then repeating it every few months, takes real time. Vanish is a Mac app that finds where data brokers publish your personal information and sends CCPA deletion demands on your behalf. It is an automated alternative to the manual steps above, not a magic fix, since the same reappearance rules apply.

Common questions

Will I get a refund if Spokeo already charged me?

Cancelling stops future charges but may not refund a charge that has already gone through. If you were billed unexpectedly, contact Spokeo support and ask for a refund. If they refuse and you believe the charge was not authorised, you can raise it with your card provider or PayPal.

Does cancelling my Spokeo trial remove my personal information?

No. Cancelling ends your access and billing only. Your own listing stays visible to others until you complete a separate opt-out on Spokeo's privacy page, or send a formal deletion request.

How do I confirm my Spokeo cancellation went through?

Look for an on-screen confirmation and a confirmation email. Save both. If no email arrives, screenshot the confirmation page. If you are still unsure, contact support and ask them to confirm the cancellation in writing.

Why did my Spokeo listing come back after I opted out?

Data brokers rebuild their records from upstream data feeds. Even a successful opt-out typically reverses within a few months as new data arrives. Recheck periodically and repeat the opt-out when your listing returns.

Can I stop Spokeo billing through PayPal or an app store?

Yes. If you paid through PayPal, cancel the recurring payment agreement in your PayPal automatic payments settings. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel it in that store's subscription settings, as the Spokeo site alone may not stop store billing.

Doing this for all 54 brokers by hand?

Vanish finds every listing about a person, sends the deletion demands from their own email, then re-checks later and tells you which ones actually came down. The scan is free — you only pay if there is something worth removing.
