How to Cancel Your Spokeo Subscription

Step-by-step guide to cancelling a Spokeo subscription, stopping recurring charges, and removing your own listing so it stops showing your details.

To cancel a Spokeo subscription, log in to your Spokeo account, open the account or settings area, find the subscription or billing section, and choose the option to cancel. If you cannot reach that screen, you can also contact Spokeo customer support and ask them to cancel the recurring charge. Cancelling stops future payments. It does not remove your own personal details from the Spokeo website, which is a separate task covered further down this page.

Cancel the paid subscription

Spokeo bills on a recurring basis, so the goal is to stop the next charge before it hits your card. The exact wording on each screen can change, so follow the general path rather than looking for one specific button.

  1. Go to the Spokeo website and sign in with the email address and password you used when you subscribed.
  2. Open the account menu. This is usually reached by clicking your name, email address or an account icon near the top of the page.
  3. Look for a section named something like Settings, Account, or Subscription. The billing details and renewal date live here.
  4. Select the option to cancel the subscription or turn off automatic renewal.
  5. Follow any confirmation prompts. You may be asked why you are leaving or offered a discount to stay. Decline and complete the cancellation.
  6. Wait for a confirmation message or email. Keep it. It is your proof that you cancelled.

If the website hides the cancel option behind repeated upsell screens, keep clicking through until you reach a clear confirmation. Do not assume the subscription is cancelled until you see confirmation on screen or in your inbox.

If you cannot log in or find the cancel button

Sometimes people subscribe through a trial and never set a password, or they lose access to the original email. In that case, contact Spokeo support directly. Use the help or contact link on their site to open a support request or find their customer service phone number. Tell them clearly that you want to cancel your subscription and stop all future billing. Give them the email address or the last four digits of the card tied to the account so they can locate it.

Check your bank or card statement

After cancelling, watch your next statement. Look for any further charge from Spokeo. If one appears after you cancelled, reply to your cancellation confirmation or contact support again and reference it. If the charge is not resolved, you can ask your bank or card provider to block further payments from that merchant.

Cancelling through the App Store or Google Play

If you signed up through a Spokeo mobile app, the subscription may be managed by Apple or Google rather than Spokeo directly. In that case, cancel it in your device subscription settings. On an iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and cancel Spokeo there. On Android, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and cancel it there.

Cancelling is not the same as removing your listing

This is the part most people miss. Cancelling your subscription stops you paying Spokeo. It does nothing to the profile Spokeo holds about you. Your name, address history, phone numbers and relatives can still appear in Spokeo search results and be visible to anyone else who searches for you.

Removing your own listing is a separate opt-out process.

How to remove your own information from Spokeo

Spokeo provides an opt-out for people who want their listing hidden from search results. You do not need a paid account to use it.

  1. Find your own profile on Spokeo by searching your name, then narrowing by city or age until you see the record that matches you.
  2. Copy the web address of that specific profile page.
  3. Go to the Spokeo opt-out page, which is linked from the privacy or do not sell section usually found in the footer of the site.
  4. Paste the profile URL into the opt-out form and enter an email address where you can receive a confirmation.
  5. Complete any verification step, such as a checkbox or image check.
  6. Open the confirmation email from Spokeo and click the link inside to finish the request.

If you find more than one profile for yourself, you must opt each one out separately. People often have several records built from different addresses over the years.

What to expect after you opt out

Be realistic about the result. An opt-out hides the listing you reported. It does not stop the broker rebuilding a profile later. Spokeo pulls from upstream data suppliers, public records and other sources, so a fresh record for you can reappear within a few months. This is normal across the whole people-search industry. Treat removal as something you check and repeat, not a one-time fix.

It is also worth knowing what cannot be removed. Court filings, property records, corporate registrations and voter rolls are public by law. Brokers often pull from these sources. You can ask a broker to hide its copy, but you cannot delete the underlying public record.

If you are in California

The CCPA gives California residents the right to ask businesses to delete personal information they hold and to stop selling it. You can send Spokeo a deletion request under that law. This is stronger than a basic opt-out because it carries legal weight, but the same caveat applies. The broker can lawfully rebuild a record from public sources afterwards, so repeat the check periodically.

Doing this at scale

Removing yourself from Spokeo is manageable by hand. The problem is that the same details sit on dozens of other people-search sites, each with its own opt-out form and its own habit of rebuilding your profile. Chasing all of them one by one is slow, and you have to do it again every few months.

Vanish is a Mac app that finds where data brokers publish your personal information and sends CCPA deletion demands on your behalf. It is an automated alternative to filling in each form yourself. The manual steps above work fine on their own, so use whichever approach suits you.

Quick summary

  • To stop billing, cancel inside your Spokeo account, or through Apple or Google if you subscribed via an app.
  • Keep your cancellation confirmation and watch your next statement.
  • Cancelling does not remove your listing. Use the opt-out form separately.
  • Expect records to reappear in a few months and plan to repeat the check.
  • Public records cannot be deleted, only the broker's copy hidden.

Common questions

Does cancelling Spokeo delete my personal information?

No. Cancelling only stops your subscription payments. Your name, address and other details stay on Spokeo until you complete the separate opt-out process to hide your listing.

Will I still be charged after I cancel?

You should not be. Keep your cancellation confirmation and check your next card statement. If a charge still appears, contact Spokeo support with the details, and ask your bank to block the merchant if it is not resolved.

I cannot log in to my Spokeo account. How do I cancel?

Contact Spokeo customer support through the help or contact link on their site. Tell them you want to cancel and give the email address or last four digits of the card linked to the subscription so they can find it.

How long does the Spokeo opt-out take to work?

Once you confirm the opt-out through the email link, the listing is usually hidden fairly quickly. Spokeo does not guarantee a fixed timeline, and records can reappear within a few months as the site rebuilds from its sources.

Can I remove my information permanently?

No. Any removal is temporary because brokers rebuild profiles from upstream feeds and public records. Public records themselves, such as property and court filings, cannot be deleted at all. Plan to repeat the opt-out periodically.
